The historic home was built by its owner, French aristocrat and entrepreneur Marquis de Mores in 1883, and was meant to serve family and friends as a hunting lodge and summer home. The historic home was named after Mores' wife, Medora. Today, the mansion has been turned into a public museum and operates under the direction of the State Historical Society of North
